Swinging History

Swinging has probably gone on since the dawn of time. In the museum or in the library everyone can find writing document from the ancient Rome and it's orgies. Today we can call those orgies on-premise swinging parties. But you have to remember, at that time no men were older than 30 years. So they had to enjoy their short life.

The first today's like swinging activity developed in the second word war between 1941 - 1944. In those days nobody was sure what will be tomorrow, especially if you are a pilot. Before the military action those pilots organized parties with their friends to say good bye for their wives, girlfriends. A lot of them never came back. And on those parties the friends promised, if something happened, they will take care of the families, including the sexual needs.

After that it was first reported by the media as "wife-swapping" in the 1950's practiced in US and within the military. The latter at "key clubs" where husbands reportedly tossed their house keys into a pile in the center of the room where they were drawn at random by the wives. The owner of a selected key was the sexual partner for the evening. It is a colorful but probably fanciful story.

Within a few years, a variety of national and local magazines catering to the needs of swingers appeared. At that time the chief way of meeting other swingers at that time was through personal ads. These publications offered column after column of such ads, many illustrated by nude and revealing photos placed by swinging couples and hopeful singles.

At first, swing clubs were informal gatherings at members' homes or at the homes of leaders of the clubs. Most clubs were informal in nature and membership was generally through another member by referral. The Sexual Freedom League in Berkeley, California in the 1960's may have been the first to be open and public about swing parties. The SFL regularly held swing parties for members along with other social and political activities.

Canada's first swingers club the Club Eros in Toronto. Probably it is the oldest North American Swingers Club. The club has a great number of members, and it is still very popular, actually more popular then ever been before.

The clubs just were meeting places for members of the clubs. Actual swinging was reserved for private homes or rented motel rooms. The activities of this style of swing club were and still are generally dances. Swinging was a private matter arranged among the member couples attending the dances and was engaged in elsewhere.

Though the swing clubs and magazines helped swinging to grow, the real backbone of swinging has always been the individual men and women who adopted swinging as part of their lifestyle. These people live everywhere. No one knows their total number but it is substantial and growing.

Today, organized swinging can be found everywhere. The media is not as conservative as it used to be, and more and more magazines and newspapers write about swinging and TV programs are talking about swinging. The Internet presently is the big boom in the lifestyle. With its global wide reach and instant communication more and more swingers information and ads are available on the net. Swinging has come a long way since the second world war. Today more new people begin swinging every year than the combined number of the 50's swingers.
